This hike started at the Presidio’s 15th Ave. Gate, just up from Lake St.
Lobos Valley Overlook: 1, 2, 3
Passing the Landmark residences (formerly the Public Health Hospital), the Marine Cemetery Vista Overlook area above is sadly another victim of the drastic tree-felling going on in our parks — this between the boardwalk/trail and the edge of the hill.
The trees added to the overall beauty of the boardwalk and overlook area, but now all that bare ground is stark and depressing. Heavy equipment was still up there, and as I looked back from my Battery Caulfield Road ascent, the huge boxy Landmark building could be seen more clearly with no trees to soften the view of it.
Battery Caulfield, climbing Rob Hill: 4
Washington, left, winding round to Immigrant Point Overlook, Rob Hill Campground above to my right: 5, 6
Immigrant Point Overlook and views from: 7 thru 12
On the overlook wall are the words of Pres. Woodrow Wilson: "We opened the gates to all the world and said, 'Let all men who want to be free come to us and they will be welcome."
The Connector Trail connects the overlook with Lincoln, 208 steps down: 13 thru 22
Crossing Lincoln, admiring the views. Then downhill west, passing the top of the Sand Ladder: 23 thru 30
A right turn descending from Lincoln, passing the 45-step shorter Sand adder: 31 thru 42
Left turn, above Baker Beach and its boardwalk: 43 thru 53
Climbing again, over the guardrail to catch the #29 Sunset beach-bus: 54 thru
