Thanks again to a good Facebook friend who told me about a new multi-use trail. And it’s a beauty!

The trailhead is on the Midtown Terrace side of Clarendon, just past Laguna Honda Reservoir: 1

This is the south side of Clarendon, across the street from “The Woods” residences. There’s a sign with a map at the trailhead: 2

It’s also a short distance from Olympia Way and the Midtown Terrace Playground.

Does this trail have an official name? If not, how ‘bout the “Woods” Trail?

Loved it immediately. Lush, narrow, definitely magical, with beautiful old trees: 3 thru 71

It curves round, winding up to a south ridge.

Nearer the summit was chainlink fencing and some old trash just off the trail. The cans, etc. will probably eventually be cleaned up. An old dumpsite for Laguna Honda Hospital? \

No one on the trail but me (and Karl the Fog). To my left as I climbed were backs of Dellbrook Ave. homes. To my right, above, some of the many hospital buildings, old and new.

Then there wee all these amazing white daisies along the trail: 72 thru 85

Up an old stairway (25 steps) but found the gate at the top locked: 86 thru 93

These benches are just inside the hospital grounds behind one of the buildings. Still no one around but me:  94, 95

Continued up to a way out at a hospital parking lot:  96 thru 101

From here delighted to see more woods just ahead: 102 thru 108

Hidden away in the forest here are two huge graffiti-covered tanks.

Started down (west) alongside the hospital grounds to my right; to the left the Juvenile Probation Dept.: 109

Down at street level was Woodside & Idora. Continued curving downhill to the #43 bus stop that’s just across from the Forest Hill Metro Station: 110

Another treat —the colorful mural at the entrance to the hospital grounds on Laguna Honda at the bus stop. I think this has to be my favorite of all murals seen so far:  111 thru 134

Concerned that the park people had destroyed some blackberry bushes in the Presidio’s Simonds Loop neighborhood during recent drastic cutbacks in this area. Pleased, however, to have found some berries recently along the steps.

Crossing over from the top of the  Lyon stairway (pic 1), thru the Broadway Gate into the park.

Forest delights and views east: 2 thru 5

Down into the Simonds Loop neighborhood, 61 steps upper to lower: 6 thru 11

More east Presidio neighborhood meandering: 12 thru 18

El Polin Spring:  19, 20

Up the westside (69 steps) to the Ecology Trail, continuing the climb to Inspiration Point Overlook (45 steps). It’s just off Arguello, a little way into the park from the south:  21 thru 37

North along Arguello to scan for berries and back up, heading south above Arguello: 38 thru 47

A visit to the Spire: 48 thru 52

A pleasant Land’s End hike starting up thru the Fort Miley forest:  1, 2, 3

Surprise! The old battery up here had been repainted, cleared of all its graffiti. Wish it would stay this way: 4, 5, 6

Continuing up, now above the VA Hospital’s picnic area that’s still being worked on and still closed to the public. But the view from above is always good: 7 thru 12

On my way to one of my favorite blackberry foraging spots, down to the Legion of Honor parking lot from the Battle of the Bulge Trail: 13, 14

Along the edge of the parking lot overlooking the Lincoln Park golf course: 15

And onto am overgrown trail that descends from the golf course: 16, 17, 18

Down to the main Coastal Trail partway up the east side steps: 19

To the top of these stairs: 20 thru 23

At the top, 138 steps to descend on the west side: 24 thru 28

Coastal Trail: 29

Up the connector stairs (89) between the Coastal and El Camino del Mar Trails to continue on the El Camino. Less people up here than on the Coastal: 30, 31, 32

Out at the El Camino del Mar Trail's west end to the upper parking lot overlook: 33, 34, 35
