Batteries to Bluffs Trail eastside: 1 thru 24

Halfway along my favorite trail a couple of guys were repairing a rough spot but were letting people through.

Trailhead for Marshall’s Beach: 25

The footbridge now has a new stairway; no more closed trail on the west side: 26 thru 39

West side up to Battery Crosby and down 16 steps from the battery. Up to Lincoln: 40 thru 52

Got a staircount of 463 this time for San Francisco’s longest stairway, but will recount next time due to the trailwork encountered.

Crossing Lincoln for the Connector Trail (208 steps) to Immigrant Point Overlook: 53 thru 62

Wording (Woodrow Wilson) on the Overlook’s stone wall: “We opened the gates to all the world and said Let all men who want to be free come to us and they will be welcome’”

The overlook is dedicated to those immigrants who entered through the Golden Gate.

Along Washington Blvd.: 63, 64

A 2008 THEN pic of the old Public Health Hospital being transformed into the present Landmark residences: 65

Marine Cemetery Overlook (103 steps): 66 thru 70.

Down from the Broadway Gate

8/23/2017

fter uphilliing from California Street, Pacific Heights’ Baker St. stairs as seen from the top: 1, 2

Next stair-street over, Lyon steps from the top: 3, 4. 5

Thru the Presidio’s Broadway Gate, into the forest and down to the Simonds Loop neighborhood: 6 thru 11

East of the main Simonds Loop stairs is a short (25 steps) “hidden” stairway: 12 thru 16

Admitting the architecture: 17 thru 31

Wanted to check out how the “Tunnel Top” project is progressing but couldn’t see anything from where I was. Just a fence.

Several years ago there were a couple of old stairways descending from the north Main Post area to Crissy Field, just north of the Transit Cafe. Now there’s ongoing construction.

Love it that the #43 bus has a few stops in this area of the park. Got it this time in front of the Transit Cafe, then it winds uphill with a section of forest and Wood Line below.

A favorite old Presidio trail, the east trailhead is just to the left of the Post Chapel. It emerges at the Cemetery Overlook: 1 thru 26.

The poem on the overlook's lowwalls is called "The Young Dead Solders" by Archibald MacLeish who served as an artillery officer in World War I.

Read the complete poem at http://www.artandarchitecture-sf.com/tag/national-cemetery.

From the overlook to the Bay Area Ridge Trail above Arguello: 27

Ecology Trail down to El Polin Spring from Inspiration Point Overlook and back up the east side: 28 thru 35

Out of the park at Spruce: 36, 37
