Batteries Bridge

3/11/2019

This short hike started at the first bridge bus stop (in front of the Visitor Center):  1thru 13

Along the northernmost trail that was widened some years ago to the first of a string of old batteries. This is between the bridge and the Golden Gate Overlook:  14

Att the first of the row of batteries used to be an old concrete stairway down to the foot of it. It is now blocked off. Several years ago a new footbridge and a few stairs to continue west on this battery were constructed.

The old way down:  15, 16

The way it looks now:  17 thru 21

Continuing along the battery, then down  where it’s now green and wildflowery:  22 thru 32

This trail runs along the north edge of the Golden Gate Overlook: 33 thru 51

Used to find young fennel leaves around this time towards the end of this string off batteries, but this time none. Jeez, did they pull them all up?

Golden Gate Overlook and views from:  52 thru 59

Back along the same trail  to the bridge area:  60 thru 74

New GCP bench

3/9/2019

A Glen Canyon hike starting at the east rim from Christopher Park:  1 thru 6

Down the stairs with the dramatic view, the beloved old bench a little way down has been replaced:  7 thru 10

Continuing down, the canyon garbed in one of her spring outfits, yellow on green (later for the wild radish blooms): 11 thru 31

At the foot of this flight, turning right to continue the trail down to the double stairways alongside the rocks:  32 thru 55

Taking the south stairway down:  56 thru 62

Over to the short footbridge and boardwalk over Islais Creek:  63 thru 76

Out to and along the main trail:  77 thru 96

A pause to admire the short trail across the creek to the west side:  97, 98, 99

Continuing south along the main trail:  100 thru 103

Now at the foot of the canyon at the Glen Park Rec. Center and up a short flight to a delightful walkway that will take you out to Elk St. in the Glen Park neighborhood:   104 thru 116

Crossing over at Elk and Chenery, several blocks east to Diamond and the Glen Park BART station, admiring some older homes on Chenery:   117 thru 120

THEN, 1972:   121

THEN, year unknown but likely early 2000s:   122

NOW, 2019:   123, 124

Continuing east on Chenery to Diamond:  125 thru 129

Love the new BART “Blue Line” train. So quiet compared to the old ones, fast, and very attractive.

Second of two February Land’s End hikes starting up into Fort Miley Forest.

This time a right turn along the parking lot to a trail down alongside the golf course:  12, 13, 14

The trail of wild nasturtiums that I recommend highly during blackberry season:  15, 16

Down this trail and over to the Coastal Trail for a couple of long stairways:  17

To the top of the east stairs: 18

First, 138 steps down the west side and back up:  19 thru 25

Now the east side for around 120 steps, continuing on the Land’s End/Coastal Trail to the east park trailhead:  26 thru 38

A trail just below the east edge of the Lincoln Park golf course to the 52 Lincoln Park steps down to 32nd Ave.:  39 thru 43

I like meandering around on San Francisco's park trails and public stairways, sometimes taking photos, and enjoying nature and the outdoors.
