No Batteries to Bluffs for 6 Weeks!

I’m not gonna be getting my Batteries to Bluffs Trail fix for about six weeks. Signs state the whole trail will be closed for repairs and habitat restoration from August 8 to September 16. I’ll then do a steps recount and find out where new railings have been constructed.

For more info on this and other trail closures, see www.parksconservancy.org

Also received an email that included a map of the areas to be closed, including: “August 11-Spring 2012: Construction of the New Golden Gate Overlook and Multi-Use Trail from Merchant Road Parking Lot.

Construction of the new overlook will begin next week and will require the closure of the area just south of Langdon Court. Fencing is in place and a pedestrian route is marked. A new trail will also be constructed.” Unquote. Noticed the new fencing today.

Commenced today’s hike at 14th Avenue, climbing the park’s newest stairway (104 steps, including those at the top on the dunes boardwalk). Stopped at the boardwalk benches for a bite to eat before continuing uphill on Battery Caulfield, then Washington, to Immigrant Point Overlook, here descending via the Connector Trail that curves down to Lincoln with its 208 or so steps (first photo).

Crossed Lincoln to the trail that leads to Battery Crosby and the Batteries to Bluffs atop it on the east side (second foto) before heading down the BTB (third pic).

Continued along the Coastal Trail to the bus stop, a bunch of pelicans passing above.

Down from the Peaks

Exited the #37 Corbett at the #74 Crestline stop and was tempted to descend the first of the several Vista Lane stairways that starts right here at the bus stop.

Instead, headed up the curvy wood stairway from Crestline into the park (first pic). At the top, Twin Peaks Blvd. (second pic), continued on the well-worn trail to the view-area, then crossed over to the other side to the Marview Trail (climb over the auto barrier).

“Marview Trail” is what I’ve always called this short trail that descends alongside the reservoir to Marview in the Midtown Terrace neighborhood.

Crossed a small grassy openspace to Palo Alto, down Glenbrook, and further down Mountain Spring to Twin Peaks Blvd. where I stopped by the foot of Tank Hill to pick some berries. If spiders and/or bees make you nervous, it’s not a good idea to go poking around blackberry bushes.

Narrow Villa Terrace begins directly across the Blvd. from Tank. Continued from Villa down the lower part of Pemberton stairway (third foto) to get to Market’s elevated sidewalk.

Have always appreciated the westside walkways and pedestrian skyway. The rails used to be orange; are now green. As I meandered along this walk, the residences above and busy Market below, crossing my path today were two colorful butterflies and a mouse.

Downhill on Romain after crossing the skyway, soon reached the Douglass upper sidewalk. There are three short stairways from upper to lower Douglass, the northernmost of these continuing to the longer main stairway, its foot at 20th.

I like meandering around on San Francisco's park trails and public stairways, sometimes taking photos, and enjoying nature and the outdoors.
