Beast Detour

Off to hike the Presidio’s Battery East Trail, but the lower trail that leads to the stairs down to Crissy Field was closed.

This is the paved winding trail that’s a choice spot for viewing the Blue Angels (and other air-and-bay treats) during Fleet Week in October.

The stairway was open, however. Looked thru a crack to see that the trail was all torn up. There are trail detour maps at the affected trailheads.

Starting out at the top alongside the road with paved bike/pedestrian trails. Continuing east to the end of Andrews Road, a favorite trail with vehicle streets above and below: 1 thru 5

Not only are wild radish pods and flowers a tasty trail snack, so are the very young leaves.

Andrews Road: 6 thru 18

As I neared the west end of Andrews, near the stairway, this area now has ew wood fencing and attractive new wood trail-edging that leads to the top of the stairs: `19 thru 31

The 153 steps: 32 thru 52

Foot of the steps: 53 thru 58

Back up and onto Andrews, once again out to its west end, then sitting briefly on a Battery East Overlook bench. This is a newer overlook with a small parking lot next to it: 59 thru 69

Circling back, he middle trail was open that goes thru the low overhead tunnel: 70 thru 78

Out to the picnic area from the tunnel and up the steep slope that descends from the main bridgeviewing area: 79 thru 85

I like meandering around on San Francisco's park trails and public stairways, sometimes taking photos, and enjoying nature and the outdoors.
